  • The start of the route is next to the Orballo tea plantations, about 35 minutes drive from the SuitsNature EcoCamp Beche  on the AC-542 road.
  • The route is circular and has an approximate length of 12,5km. From SuitsNature EcoCamp Beche it will take a total of 5 hours and 50 minutes.
  • The route lasts approximately 4 hours.
  • The technical difficulty is moderate. It is recommended to wear hiking shoes and comfortable clothes.

Our team had the opportunity to do part of this route around the river Mandeo. The River Mandeo is one of the most ecologically relevant enclaves within the biosphere reserve. The Eco-Hiking Trail Mandeo Orballo, with an extension of about 12 km and lasting approximately 4 hours, will take us along the river bank, where we can admire nature in absolute peace, since it is not crowded at all. After touring the banks of the Mandeo for approximately 6 km, we will arrive at the Bocelo spa, a place where traditionally visitors came to heal various ailments due to the belief that its waters had healing properties. At the equator of the route is the bridge of Zarzo (Ponte do Zarzo). The return to origin is carried out on the opposite side, since the aforementioned bridge will be crossed. Among other things, we can see native plants and animals of all kinds. But be careful! You may come across some wolves, but don’t make a mountain out of it, they tend to run away as soon as they perceive the presence of the human being.

Visit to Orballo

Once the hiking trail is over, it’s time to relax with a visit to Orballo, Spain’s first tea plantation. This company stands out for respect for nature and its 100% natural products, without additives. This is an extremely interesting visit, where they will give you a chance to try their tea and explain the traditional production of tea among other products. Those other products go from aromatic to medicinal herbs, which they also include in their infusions to create their own natural functional beverages. It should be noted the commitment made by entrepreneurs and the administration of the area to promote a circular economy, through collaboration.
